Schottenheimer gets Cowboys job & Raiders appoint Carroll

Brian Schottenheimer

The Las Vegas Raiders have announced Pete Carroll as their new head coach, while the Dallas Cowboys have welcomed Brian Schottenheimer to the role.

Carroll, at 73, led the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl win in 2014 and now holds the title of the oldest head coach in NFL history.

Schottenheimer, son of the legendary coach Marty, has been promoted from offensive coordinator to take over from Mike McCarthy, who departed from the Cowboys after five years earlier this month.

At 51, Schottenheimer steps into the head coach role for the first time, but he brings over 25 years of experience in various NFL team roles.

He spent the last three seasons with the Cowboys under McCarthy, who was mentored by his father Marty before his passing in 2021.

Marty achieved 200 regular-season wins over his 21 years as a head coach, with tenures at the Cleveland Browns and the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Cowboys will introduce Schottenheimer as their head coach at a news conference on Monday.

Kellen Moore, the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coordinator, previously worked under McCarthy in Dallas before Schottenheimer took over.

"Schottenheimer boasts a much longer resume of overall coaching experience between the two, despite not having called plays in Dallas during the McCarthy era," stated a Cowboys announcement.

He becomes the Cowboys' 10th head coach and the ninth since owner Jerry Jones took over in 1989.
